Thank you for visiting my website,
I am honored that you have chosen to visit my website. We have designed this website to help you learn more about me, my campaign to be re-elected to the Westminster City Council, and where I stand on the critical issues facing our community.
Westminster faces new challenges, financial, demographic and structural. I seek re-election to the Westminster City Council because I am prepared to make the difficult decisions necessary to overcome these challenges.
In my six years on the Westminster City Council, I have demonstrated that I can face down well-financed special interests, and defeat them. I have earned a reputation as being prepared to ask the difficult questions that need to be asked, when others may be too uncomfortable to do so. Those who have served with me can vouch for my serious approach to government, my careful attention to detail, and my appreciation for the long term consequences of decisions that often appear deceptively easy.
During my service on the City Council, I have fought successfully to reduce taxes, control spending, reduce crime, improve traffic, enhance property values, improve the appearance of our City, and make Westminster a more desirable place for both our residents and our businesses. I have the knowledge to determine what needs to be done and the experience to know how to accomplish it, but I also have the nerve to take action promptly.
Leadership is not for the timorous, and I do not wait for others to take action and then tag along - I take my stand and persuade others to join me. I do not shrink from controversy. Whether it was fighting to reduce the Utility Tax in Westminster, to repeal the Illegal Immigrant Drivers' License Law, or to oppose the restructuring and increase in water rates, I committed to the cause without reservation and acted where all could see.
As a lifelong resident of Westminster, with a professional practice here in Orange County, as a member of the Board of Directors of the Garden Grove Hospital and Medical Center, as a former Chairman of the Boy Scouts of America, Orange Frontier District, and as the Personnel Chairman and former President of the Boys and Girls Club of Westminster, I understand this community and its concerns.
As your City Councilman, I will continue to fight against tax increases, assessment districts and excessive debt. I will coordinate law enforcement efforts between our award-winning Westminster Police Department and state and federal law enforcement agencies to respond to the "Echo Boom" and the potential resulting rise in crime rates, and I will continue to fight to close strip clubs and gang hang-outs. I will oppose expensive public transit schemes, which would ignore our city's transportation needs, and I will instead concentrate on traffic solutions that recognize that the private automobile remains the primary source of transportation in our community. I am proud of the many streets we have repaved and resurfaced during my two terms in office, and our infrastructure, including streets, parks and the water system, continue to be a top priority. I will seek to curtail the taking of private property by eminent domain, while I fight to keep redevelopment abuse out of Westminster.
Wendy and I are proud to call Westminster our home. AS the father of two children, Dermot and Connor, I am committed to making Westminster as great a place for them to grow up in as it was for me. Please join me in this effort to keep Westminster the greatest community in the world.
Thank you for visiting my website. If you have any questions or need additional information, please never hesitate to contact me. I am here to serve you.
With warmest regard,
Kermit Marsh
